Hi folks,

We’re going to do a massive upgrade of the entire site and we also plan on adding a few new features and such. So, the site will be down for a wee bit tonight while we work on this. Sorry for the inconvenience, but it will be worth it in the long run!

A couple days ago our new server was completely hammered by people who have nothing better to do than attack people’s websites…and we had some trouble getting that taken care of. We apologize for the long time the site was offline, but it seems that everything will be okay now.

Someone just brought a bug to our attention that was making it difficult to register. We’ve tracked it down to the re-captcha we were using and have currently disabled it. Blog creation for new users should be fully functional now.

We’ll work on finding some other way to secure the signups against flagrant spam but in the meantime, if you see something spammy, please contact us and let us know!

Was just wondering if anyone had some suggestions for improving SquidTop. We’d like to make this as friendly and easy-to-use as possible, so if you’re having any problems or have any ideas to make the site better please feel free to let us know here and we’ll work on it.

Also, how is the spam system working for everyone?

Yay, we are (almost) done with SquidTop 2.0! Thanks for staying with us through this…

Some new features include:

• Upgrade to Wordpress 2.6
• A working SPAM system
• Theme changes (more info below)

We decided to change the theme for SquidTop, as well as provide a selection of themes for you all. To check these themes out, head over to your admin dashboard–accessible by going to your squidtop blog’s address and adding /wp-admin/ and click the design link in the top menu. You can then choose one of the themes you like from the list. We only have a few working now, but we plan on adding a bunch more in time.

The old SquidTop also had that big box on your blog that you could use to type out posts. We don’t have that anymore, unfortunately, and when you want to write a post you’ll need to go to your blog’s admin dashboard area and click Write to write a new post for your blog.

The new SPAM system will hopefully catch any nasties you all may be getting as well.

Some stuff might not work 100% yet until we get all of the kinks out. Just please bear with us.

Okay, we’ve finally had time to sit down and add a Squidoo Lens for Squidtop.

It includes a plexo with a list of Squidtop Blogs on it, so if you haven’t gone and added yours to the list yet, do it! I added a few that were on the front page but it’s entirely possible I missed yours so go check it out and let us know if you think it needs anything.

Congratulations Squidtop! We’ve passed the 200 Blog Mark!

The previous SquidTop help system was a little…inefficient, so we decided to set up a dedicated SquidTop help center where you may ask questions, post comments, and report bugs. This system is also used by several big companies and organizations such as Twitter and Mozilla.

Our support email address will still continue to work, but you’ll get an answer faster by using our new help system. The new help center can be found here, so please check it out and feel free to comment!
