Hey all,

Was just wondering if anyone had some suggestions for improving SquidTop. We’d like to make this as friendly and easy-to-use as possible, so if you’re having any problems or have any ideas to make the site better please feel free to let us know here and we’ll work on it.

Also, how is the spam system working for everyone?

Thanks!

The SPAM feature is working well for me – but although this probably sounds daft, I would like the option to actually see the junk, but have not worked out how I can – if I can that is! Yes, I know it’s daft…….

Also, and again it could just be me being thick, but if I am looking at a Blog that does not have the “Meta” module included, then I find it hard to navigate back to my dashboard. Am I missing something hugely obvious?

Visually, it’s a nice look; but I personally, liked the admin dashboard the way it was prior to the last update. Also I notice that the mini signature lines don’t show up on individual posts anymore. That was a nice feature.

I liked the way before how every blog had a link back to SquidTop so I could easily get back to the list of recent SquidTop posts. Now, it’s gone so I have to use the back button…. I know, not a big deal. :P

I have a hard time navigating around; but I used the other format only a few weeks and didn’t exactly find it easy either ;)

I would like a tab at the top to navigate back to squidtop and also to get to Site Admin…Big, obvious, tabs.

I would like a link back to Squidtop as well. For now I added that to my Blogroll.

The spam is very confusing, especially when you try and leave someone a comment and it says you have to visit their spam karma page. I did and got lost. Already lost 1 comment that went into spam and although I thought I had approved it, it doesn’t show up.

Otherwise, I like the new look.

I was also looking for the link back to Squidtop – I like to see what others are blogging about. Good idea to add it to the blogroll in the meantime, though.

I miss my tags! Thanks to Susan I started a jokey thing of trying to come up with the funniest tags for each post (I’m more interested in making people laugh than SEO…), but now the best part of some of my posts is missing… True, they are on the side bar, but it was matching them with the post that was so funny. Well, I found it funny. Could be just me.

  7. rms Says:

    All of the above.
    And thank you for asking!

  8. Susan Villas Lewis Says:

    I miss them too, daoine.

I must just be a weirdo in that the admin area looks a little more like Wordpress to me, so I’m more comfortable. But I agree I’d like to see my spam just to make sure I don’t have real comments getting caught in the filter. But you can set the strength, I believe, so maybe I just need to weaken it and live with the few that get through.

I’d like to have the option to bring in my own template since you are allowing options now. Or at least to tweak it so that at least mine can be purple while everyone else’s is green. Didn’t bother me for them to _all_ look alike, but if you’re going to give me choices at all …

This was something that bugged me before anyway, but given the sheer number of blogs now, I’d like to see the list of recent posts that shows up on the SquidTop blog be longer. If I make updates on all three of my blogs (which I did today) suddenly, I’m taking up three spots and there are fewer updated ones for me to see. If there are a lot of people updating, it’s kind of tough to keep up with them otherwise.

Is there a full listing somewhere of all the SquidTops? I tend to just check this blog to look for new updates, but I’m sure there are people I miss all the time just due to timing of my visits.

I got my old problem again: my latest post isn’t on the front page – instead yesterday’s post is. And the rel-no-follow subject is SOO important (if I may say so myself).

    I thought this was fixed.

BTW: there IS a backlink to squidtop on each blog. It took me a while to find, so I’m not surprised people missed it: it’s right at the bottom people. Right at the bottom.

I’m really having a hard time figuring out on how to post an entry easily. I think Squidtop has an easy access for those lensmasters who wants to blog about Squidoo.. :(

  12. cleanerlife Says:

    I’ve had 2 problems:

First with the spam filter, it caught another Lensmaster’s comments and marked as spam. When I approved the comments, it posted the comments with my ID instead of the original poster’s ID. I’m not sure if there are settings to make that not happen. I accidentally erased the comments trying to figure it out (I didn’t personally erase them, I clicked something I didn’t understand, and they were erased).

Secondly, when I am logged in using FireFox, there is no “Site Admin” link in the Meta box. It is there when I use IE.

I just made a work around for that — added the link to my Blogroll.

But still, I don’t know why I can see it in one browser not the other (actually, I wouldn’t have even mentioned it if I could see it with FireFox and not IE. I’m use to ignoring all of IE’s shortcomings).

Scratch my comment: not all THEMES have a link back to the squidtop homepage.

  14. cleanerlife Says:

I think my problem is the theme I chose. I turned off SK2, and played around with the widgets. The Meta widget seems to need to stay on top to work right right in this theme.

I’m going to keep it as it is, cause I really like the color scheme in that theme. If it gives me any more trouble, maybe I’ll try a different one

  15. vbright Says:

Wordpress is just NOT a user friendly blog program. I have tried to use it several times, and things always mess up.

  16. vbright Says:

I keep having a log-in problem. No matter what I do, my visitors have to register, and when I go from Squidtop to Squidoo, or Visa-Versa, I have to log in again. Not sure what the problem is. I’m using the Cour design. I don’t know if that makes a difference or not. People don’t want to comment though, because they have to sign in.

I would like to actually be able to post video and pictures to my blog, “Squidoo Prescription.”

    Thanks!!

I would like to be able to add photos to my posts

  19. biggirlblue Says:

I just tried to put in an ebbed movie file and wasn’t able to. So it would be nice to do that. :)

  20. AJ Says:

I would like there to be a “report to SquidTop” link that appears on every post, so that when we get Spam posts that are not in keeping with what SquidTop is about then we can just hit the button and report it.

I have an RSS feed for twitter on my blog, that hasn’t updated since I put it there. Perhaps the wp-cache thing is set too tightly? Should be set to change with every update.

Can we have some more themes, please?
